About

Dea Wrona is a Brazilian artist, born in 1981. She lives and works in São Paulo.

She works with recycled paper fibre, moulded and painted in layers, to make wall reliefs and sculptures. She also paints in dry pastel, oil, acrylic and watercolour, and works in ceramics.

Her starting point is the material. Dea explores what paper fibre can do: its thickness, edges and folds, the way layers overlap and build volume, how it takes up paint, and the distance each piece keeps from the wall. Colour is built up in layers over the relief, and the shadow becomes part of the work. She does not give up on beauty, and wants it to carry meaning. In the birds in flight, movement takes something of what came before along with it.

Commissions

The In Formation series and Study of Flight are open to commissions for a new work in a different palette.

Each commission is a new, unique work, made by Dea in dialogue with the space where it will hang: the wall, the light and the colours around it. The palette is decided in conversation with the artist.

To begin, send a few photos of the space by WhatsApp or email. Prices and timelines on request. All other works are unique pieces and are not available as commissions.
